“I do not want anyone else with me but you,” President Teddy Roosevelt wrote to naturalist John Muir before their historic campout. The Trees is an eco-homo-erotic musical by Larry D. Lariosa, Kristy Lin Billuni, and Tony Howard, where singing Trees invite the audience to interrogate two progressive heroes and reimagine this American folklore as a queer fantasia that heals us and our planet.

Come fall in love…

January 20, 2024 at 7pm

Z Below, 450 Florida St, San Francisco

For five short days, we have workshopped the script and music to get this show ready for a fully staged premiere in 2025.

Thank you for being here to participate in this process and help cultivate our just-germinated Tree characters, new script, new music, and the heartbreaking John-and-Ted love song everyone asked us for.

In 1903, Roosevelt and Muir ditched a contingent of press and dignitaries to hike alone in Yosemite for three days. Some say their connection galvanized our National Parks system, casting them as environmental heroes.
But our Trees tell another story.
